Eritrean community in the Netherlands demonstrates in support of Dutch government

The Hague – Around 180 members of the Eritrean community in the Netherlands held a demonstration in support of the Dutch government. With the demonstration, the organisers wanted to express gratitude for the actions of the Dutch government, including declaring head of the Eritrean embassy office ‘persona non grata’; they also wanted to show that the fight for justice and freedom is not yet over.  

Eritreans no longer required to go to Eritrean authorities for family reunion in Sweden

The migration court in Sweden ruled that family members of Eritreans residing in Sweden no longer have to obtain IDs or passports for family reunions. The ruling was issued after the court decided that the Eritrean authorities placed undue demands on the refugees, such as paying 2% tax and signing an ‘apology letter’.

UN Human Rights Council interactive dialogue on Eritrea – no change in human rights situation

At the UN Human Rights Council, an ‘enhanced interactive dialogue’ on human rights in Eritrea took place on 12 March. It included an update from the Special Rapporteur on Eritrea, Sheila Keetharuth, multiple countries and human rights organisations. Eritrea itself was not there to take the floor.
